Please read our commonly asked question, below! If you still have questions, please contact McKinley Cree, Communications & Volunteer Chair, at kinbclark@gmail.com.
01
PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. It is similar to a PTA in a public school but without the yearly dues membership. In place of dues we request volunteer hours.
This is a great question and one we love answering! The first place to look is the Volunteer tab of the school website. On this page you will find resources & links to many different volunteer opportunities including PTO events, helping in the classroom, donations, community volunteer opportunities and more! We LOVE having our WPA Families support us by volunteering and sending donations! If you go to the volunteer tab and you still don’t know where to begin, contact our Volunteer Coordinator and they will help you find answers to your questions. The Volunteer Coordinator contact information can be found on the Volunteer tab of the website.
Which volunteer situations require a background check?
Background checks are required by WPA for any volunteer who is working with children. This includes, but is not limited to, classroom volunteers, field trips, school events, etc. For questions about background checks please call the front office.
No, absolutely not! We request 30 volunteer hours because volunteer efforts build our school community and enhance your student’s educational experience at WPA. There are many ways to help! There are at-home projects, school events, donation needs, etc. See the “Volunteer” tab on the school homepage for the most current information!
Why do I need to log my hours? Is it really necessary?
Keeping track of volunteer hours is a great way for the PTO and school administration to gauge the “vitality” of the school. We use this information to monitor interest in PTO events, see how much teachers are utilizing parent volunteers, and also apply for community grants and recognition for our school.
02
If my volunteering is not for the PTO, do I still log my hours?
Yes! All volunteering, whether in the classroom, at-home projects for a teacher, an event, field trips or even donations are valuable parts of volunteer hours. If you helped the school in any way, record it!
If I make a donation, how do I record it as volunteer hours?
Our hope is to have contributions of any kind recorded. If you donate an item to the school, consider the amount of time that it took to make that happen. We leave it up to you to use your discretion on whether the value of the item should also be quantified as hours.
If I watch my friends' kids while they volunteer for the school, does that count as volunteer hours?
Yes! If what you are doing benefits Wasatch Peak, then you can count it as volunteering.
03
How do I log my volunteer hours?
You can scan the QR code by the front office, follow the link in the Wednesday note or class newsletters, ask your event chair for the QR code or simply CLICK HERE!
Will I be able to see how many hours I have volunteered?
Yes! Everytime you submit volunteer hours on the google form, you will receive an email detailing your submission. To review your volunteer hours, simply go through your emails and add up the submitted hours! Easy peasy!
If I sign up for an event using Sign-Up Genius, are my hours automatically logged?
No. You will still need to log your hours on the Google form.
