Trena Reeves

Special Education Director

Trena Reeves earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Western Governors University. She joined Wasatch Peak Academy in the spring of 2024 and was drawn to the school’s strong sense of community and its commitment to supporting diverse learners. Trena has a passion for helping students grow in confidence and independence, which inspires her continued passion for education. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking, world traveling, and reading.

Sarah Thomas

Special Education Teacher

Sarah Thomas is an energetic and passionate special educator who loves working with ALL the students. Sarah was born and raised in a small town in Texas.  She grew up playing many sports and raised a variety of animals. She has a B.A. in Kinesiology from Texas Lutheran University (1999) and a M.Ed. in Physical Education from Texas State University (2001). She then obtained her teaching license for Special Education through the Education Career Alternatives Program (2005). Sarah and her girls, Hanley and Hunter, moved to Utah in 2017 and they enjoy taking advantage of all that this part of the country has to offer. During her free time, you will find her maintaining the school garden (with the help of her husband, Nicholas), walking in North Salt Lake, or riding her bike with friends and family. Sarah has been a Special Education teacher with WPA since 2017. She is in and out of all the classes throughout the day and loves getting to know ALL the students.  

Michelle Carlson

Michelle Carlson

Speech-Language Pathologist

Michelle Carlson graduated from Utah State University in 2009 with a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.  She knew she wanted to be a speech therapist since she was 15 years old and is thrilled to be living her dream. She believes that effective communication is a human right, and feels privileged to play a role in the lives of the students she works with. She has been teaching at Wasatch Peak Academy since 2014.  She loves the students' resiliency, their supportive families, the devoted staff, and the culture of continuing education.  She lives in Farmington with her husband, four children, and two cats. 

Jessica Edwards

Speech-Language Pathologist

Jessica Edwards loves being a Speech-Language Pathologist at WPA. She earned her B.A. degree from Brigham Young University in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and her M.S. degree from University of Utah is Speech-Language Pathology. She has worked in various school settings for the last 17 years from preschool- 12th grade and is grateful for the relationships she has built with the children and families she has worked with in helping students achieve their communication goals. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, skiing, and traveling.

Sharla Harding has been working at Wasatch Peak Academy since 2019. Both of her children attended school at WPA. She loves working at the school and watching the kids grow further in their education. In her spare time she enjoys being with her husband and two boys. She enjoys doing puzzles, playing games with family, and thrifting with her sisters.

Mrs. Amy believes individualized education is where it all begins- which is why she chooses Wasatch Peak Academy! She has been with WPA since 2023. She is native to Woods Cross. She’s lived away but always found her way back home… even after living in Maui, Hawaii as a tourism intern. Amy graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's degree in Finance. She retains her state license in Personal and Commercial Insurance. She’s an active member of the community HOA Board. She’s a mother of three, including twins. She enjoys going to dinner and spending movie nights with her husband and kids.  

Zach Schacht

Zach is in his 2nd year at Wasatch Peak Academy as a teaching assistant in the Special Education department. With a passion for supporting students' unique strengths and needs, he is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.  He is excited to continue building connections with students, staff, and families. Outside of school, Zach enjoys spending time with his family and walking his lovable dog Eddie. He is thrilled to be part of the WPA Community.

Liz graduated from BYU with a bachelors degree in Child Development and a Masters in Social Work in 2006. Liz has three kids attending WPA and loves seeing how much they have benefitted from the amazing learning environment and growth opportunities at the school. Now she is excited to give back to this dear community at WPA by joining the Special Education department. In her free time, Liz loves gardening, reading books, walking and doing yoga, doing puzzles, and spending time with her husband and kids. 

Greg Hansen

Gregory Hansen earned a GED from the D.A.T.C. in 2009. Greg decided to join an educational vocation at Wasatch Peak Academy in 2017 at the suggestion of a friend. Greg only stayed one year due to other opportunities as a Chef. The pandemic lockdown in 2019-2020 lead to Greg reassessing his career, he came back to the school in 2021. In his free time he enjoys playing competitive card games, watching anime, playing board games, and spending time with his family. 

Nichole Swink

Nichole Swink

SPED Assistant

This is Nichole's first year at WPA. She is currently a TA working with the 4th-6th grade Special Education students. She has been working in education for the last five years. She has worked with elementary students who are new to the U.S., English Language Learners, and taught English Language Development, phonics, and reading intervention. She speaks just enough Spanish to get by most days.

She has one husband, and two children of her own at home, as well as two cats who adopted her family one winter, and never left. She enjoys reading as many as three books at a time (one Kindle book, one physical book, and one audiobook), working out when it is still the middle of the night (5 AM), and playing really intense and geeky board games almost every Sunday. She loves live music, yard work when it's not 100 degrees outside, and an iced caramel latte from Dutch Bros. Or a crisp Diet Dr. Pepper with a lime slice. She is looking forward to getting to know WPA students and families.
